Scorpiops validus is a species of scorpion belonging to the family Scorpiopidae. This genus predominantly found in mountainous and forested regions. Scorpiops validus is one of the larger and more notable species within this genus.

    • Identification and Description

Size: Scorpiops validus is a medium to large-sized scorpion, typically reaching around 6 to 8 cm (2.5 to 3 inches) in length.

Coloration: The species generally exhibits a dark brown coloration. Its body is covered with fine granules, giving it a rough texture.

Pincers (Pedipalps): This species is characterized by its large, robust pincers, which are strong and heavily granulated. These pincers are often used more frequently than the stinger for both hunting and defense.

Tail (Metasoma): Due to its reliance on powerful pincers, the tail is less frequently used for stinging.

Carapace: The carapace is granular with a noticeable ridge.

    • Geographic Distribution and Habitat

Location: Scorpiops validus is primarily found in regions of Southeast Asia, with a significant presence in parts of China, Thailand, and surrounding areas.

Habitat: This species prefers cool, mountainous regions and forested environments. They are typically found under rocks, within leaf litter, and in soil crevices. They thrive in high-altitude areas with moderate to high humidity levels.

They are terrestrial and often create burrows or use natural crevices as shelters to avoid predators and extreme weather.

    • Behavior & Venom

Venom: The venom of Scorpiops validus is considered mild and not particularly dangerous to humans. A sting can cause localized pain and swelling, but it is generally not harmful unless an individual has an allergic reaction.

Defensive Behavior: This species is quite docile and will usually stay still even if disturbed, S. validus adopts a stance of "If I stay perfectly still, maybe they won't see me" kind of approach, Very rarely will this particular species pinch or sting.
